I want to know the name of the famous ancient greek soldier who is considered as "Our Father" by the Greeks ?

Someone told me that the Greeks have a Hero, in fact a soldier of Ancient Greece, who is considered as" the Father" of the Greek nation.

Is it true or is it just a legend?

And who is it?

I thought it was Alexander, but some guys told me that it was another one, and they don't remember exactly the name .

I want to know the name of the famous ancient greek soldier who is considered as "Our Father" by the Greeks ?
Many historical and mythological figures of the ancient Greece can be considered as "fathers" of the Greeks. Each one is attributed with a special characteristic that was unique for the person.

Hercules for his mighty strength. He even was supposed to have fought bare-handed with lions among other vicious animals. For that he was depicted on the coat-of-arms of the former of the royal family.

Odysseus (Ulysses), for his cunning and strategic abilities. Inventor of the Trojan Horse.

Achilles, for being undefeated and considered a semi-god as being the son of a goddess. He had the his Achilles heel, though.

Leonidas, for being attributed to be a fearless warrior who stood his ground and fallen among his few men, and that by treachery. The "this Sparta "man.

However, the mightiest of them all is considered Alexander the Great, who using his bravery and cunning expanded the Greek culture as far East as China and all over the North Africa region. There are people on those regions considered to be direct descendants of his men.

I believe the title can go to him. That is why he is so much exploited by our neighbors who being historically deprived want to have a figure to show as theirs.

But Alexander was more Greek than anyone else and the archaeological findings prove that beyond doubt.
Reply:I suppose this father figure was actually an allegory, wasn't it?...

I don't think that the modern Greeks still believe in their fascinating mythology...
Reply:It might be Hercules! I´m actually pretty sure it was him!
Reply:I tottaly agree with Alexlascari. Zeus was considered by Greeks (and Romans) as the father of their (our) nation.

Original quote:

«πατήρ θεών τε ανδρών τε»

"Father of Gods and Men"

As for Romans, Jupiter comes from the words Deus-Pater which mean Father - God.
Reply:The father of the Greek Nation is not a common soldier but Zeus (Jupiter) himself.

There is the relative ancient Greek quote about him: "Father of Gods and Humans".

Meaning that we Greeks are made of the same substance with Gods.
