alot of italian in me i would know!!!
Reply:Ancestry.Com shows 1 Gripioti on the 1920 census from Greece. Actually, they show it two ways the other way was Fripioti. I might add that the Gripoti on the census was a sister-in-law to the head of household. She could have been Greek but married to an Italian.

Now, surnames frequently can come from more than one nationality. If this is your family name, the best thing to do is to trace your family.

The link below won't given you any information on the name but it is about peddlers of surname products. I think the public needs to be educated about that.

Reply:Just because it looks / sounds Italian doesn't mean it's Italian. Some names that are Ukrainian look Russian, but I'd laugh anyone out of the room that thought my surname was anything but Russian. Gripioti is probably Greek, as the previous poster(s) mentioned, but it's best to look at your family history. If you have any trace of Greek in you, that's probably where it came from, or if there's a Greek in your family from too far back for anyone to recall. Trace who brought the name into the family and look up their nationality.
