I like the name Elias (Greek form of Elijah), but am concerned about the nn. Eli?

If you knew a little boy named Elias would you automatically shorten it to Eli? How many people do you think would?

My younger brothers name is Andrew, my mum HATES 'Andy' so nobody ever called him that. When he got a bit older he didn't mind people calling him Andy so his mates and stuff did, but nobody in our family or family friends has ever called him that.

Just let people know when he is born that his name is Elias and not Eli.

Nice choice on the name btw, thats a name I have throughout my family and I love it!
Reply:no i wouldn't because i'm not a fan of nicknames. a name is a name for a reason, i see no point in shortening it!
Reply:I never automatically shorten anybodys name. One should always ask before calling somebody something else.
Reply:i only call people by their nicknames if they want me to. I couldn't care for myself because most people pronounce my name wrong. I like the name, it's very strong.
Reply:Nope,

I also am not a fan of nicknames. He would be called by his name, unless the parents stated otherwise.
