In every major Greek city there was a theatre like you mention. They were amphitheaters, the most famous one is at Epidaurus, in modern Greece.
Hippodromes were for horse racing, and were Roman, not Greek.
Reply:You're probably thinking of the hippodrome at Delphi. There is also a hippodrome called the Theater of Dionysus at the acropolis in Athens
