How would you pronounce the Greek name Accalia?

Uh-kale-yuh

How would you pronounce the Greek name Accalia?
A-kaalya

I'd spell it Akahlia or something that emphasises the AAH sound because otherwise people might prn it ACKa-leah which we dont want ;-)

Gorgeous name though thanks for introducing it to me xx
Reply:Ah-sale-ya

Like Azalea, Bus with an S instead of a Z. I think the cc indicates a "soft" c, like and s.
Reply:Uh-kay-lee-uh just like Acacia.

Congrats on your new baby girl!
Reply:i would pronounce it as 'A-Kay-Lee-A

  1. My name is Accalia. I now love the name, but as a child it was torture. No one could ever pronounce it correctly especially young kids that would always find silly things to say instead of my name. Because of this I mainly go by the nickname Kelly. I'm always the one in Dr. offices that the nurse steps out to call your name and they hesitate and have the strange look on their face and I then say "That's me" I don't give them the oppurtunity to butcher it.....again. I have never met another Accalia.....it would be interesting to meet someone else with same name to see if they have same issues that I do. The way my parents always pronounced it was Ah-kale-ya.

  2. I named my daughter Accalia 6 years ago. I still like it. As to the pronunciation, the two C's are hard (think 'broccoli'). The Romans would have pronounced it something like Ah - call - ee - uh, but I pronounce it uh - kale - ee - uh.

    Nicknames include Kay, Leah, Kaylee.
